New Discovery: Ardipithecus

'Ardi', the oldest human ancestor was unveiled today. She dates back 4.4 million years. The story of Ardipithecus will premiere on The Discovery Channel on Sunday, October 11 at 9 p.m. ET . Go check it out :)

I was fortunate enough to work along side a great team to get this project out the door. After a few bumps in the road Impossible Pictures brought in Daev Finn (CG Lead), Spice Jones (producer), Toby Cochran (Animator, teaser shot setup), Russ Adkisson (lighting/composting) and myself (Lead Lighting/compositing) to jump into the inferno. There were quite a few long nights, software battles and scooter rides while waiting for renders now we finally see Ardi arrive to the public eye.

Only one cg image has been released to the public. Once the show has been aired I can share more about the crazy process we went through to create the shots. I will also add more as content is released to the public.

I'd like to congratulate and thanks for this finest and astonishing work that the whole staff bring to us. It has been a long wait since september 1994 when a got the edition of Nature magazine with the describing of the Ardipithecus ramidus. Finally whe have something to look at, something that looks like a living being, bringing to us a new light on our very remote origins.
